Looking ahead to the Dressage action…
Home favourites, sporting icons and the reigning champions are among those on the start list for the Lyon (FRA) leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup™ Western European League season.
Germany’s World No.1 and Paris 2024 Olympic gold medallist Isabell Werth brings DSP Quantaz to France for the second leg of the 2024-2025 series. Werth is joined in Lyon by compatriots Dorothee Schneider, Sönke Rothenberger and Fabienne Müller-Lütkemeier.
Werth won the Lyon title five times in a row up to 2021, most recently with the fabulous Weihegold Old (pictured above). The Grand Prix at Equita Lyon is held on Thursday, with the Freestyle on Saturday. Both are live on FEI TV.
French contingent
The French contingent is led by Paris 2024 Olympian Pauline Basquin, who finished third in the Freestyle in Lyon a year ago with Sertorius de Rima Z Ifce.
Basquin and Sertorius de Rima Z Ifce return to competition for the first time since helping France to an impressive sixth-place finish in the Team competition at the Palace of Versailles. An impressive performance in Paris also saw Basquin qualify for the Individual Final.
Another French Olympic pair heading to Lyon is Alexandra Ayache & Jolene, with Stephanie Brieussel and Anne Sophie Serre also participating.
Lyon will welcome Patrik Kittel & Touchdown, who won the 2024 FEI Dressage World Cup™ Final in Riyadh (KSA) earlier this year. The Netherlands’ Dinja van Liere, who won Individual bronze at the 2022 FEI World Championship, brings Hartsuijker to Lyon.
Basel in mind
16 competitors representing eight nations will be on the start list, each looking to pick up points that can help them qualify for this year’s final in Basel (SUI). As well as France, Germany, The Netherlands and Sweden, Lyon will also welcome athletes from Austria, Belgium, Estonia and Switzerland.
Last year, Germany’s Frederic Wandres & Bluetooth OLD took first place in Lyon with a personal best of 83.415%. Equita Lyon will host World Cup Dressage, Driving and Jumping over a busy few days, with all the main action live on FEI TV.
