The 12th FEI Endurance World Championship was held from 6 to 9 November 2008 was staged at the Terengganu International Endurance Park (TIEP) in Lembah Bidong, situated on the South China sea coastline north of Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. No less than 126 riders from 32 nations took part in the event.
The championship was endorsed by avid Endurance rider, Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Wathiqu Billah Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah, who served at the constitutional monarch of Malaysia from 2006 to 2011. In addition, the world’s top riders were joined by members of the Royal families of Bahrain and Dubai.
Besting the championship field of riders, Spain’s Maria Alvarez Ponton galloped home to gold on Nobby, with a ride time of 8:48:06. The pair were also awarded the Best Condition.
Agustin Vita of Argentina won silver aboard Baraka Ibn Al Tamah whereas Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem (UAE) gained the bronze on Tazoul El Parry. The first 10 riders finished within one hour of the winning time.
The United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain swept team gold, silver and bronze respectively.
