Injuries He had back surgery in 2012 and was supposed to return to riding in February 2013. However, an accident at home led to him fracturing a vertebra. He finally returned in March 2013. (, 13 Mar 2013)

He suffered multiple injuries in 2008 after an accident at a show in Germany when his horse Pikap broke a leg on take-off at an obstacle. Twomey suffered broken ribs and head injuries, and lay unconscious trapped under the horse for half an hour [the horse had to be euthanised on the spot]. He was out of competition for six months, and returned in October 2008. (, 22 Jan 2015)
