Hero / Idol German dressage riders Herbert Rehbein and Klaus Balkenhol. (britishdressage.co.uk, 06 Aug 2009)
Sporting philosophy / motto "If you have such a strong passion for something, like mine for horses and riding, it never dies." (oxfordtimes.co.uk, 23 Aug 2013)
Awards and honours He was inducted into Great Britain's Coaching Hall of Fame at the 2012 UK Coaching Awards. (rda.org.uk, 26 Nov 2012)
Other information SOUTH AFRICA TO EUROPE
Born in South Africa, he moved to England at age 17 to train in dressage. After three years, he went to work in Germany before returning to set up his training centre at Heath Farm in Milton-under-Wychwood, England. He spends much of his time training students and their horses. (emile-faurie.co.uk, 26 Mar 2016)

In May 2013 he was named head trainer of the Finland dressage team, initially until the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He stepped down from the role in April 2017 when he took over as training supervisor and sales manager at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen am Teutoburger, Germany, but did continue to train some of the international grand prix riders on the Finland dressage team. (eurodressage.com, 13 Apr 2017; hevosurheilu.fi, 16 Sep 2015; horseandhound.co.uk, 03 Jun 2013)

He runs the Emile Faurie Foundation, which gives children from lower income families the opportunity to experience the benefits of horsemanship. "The difference it makes to some of these kids is incredible. Some have turned their lives around as a result. Horses have an amazingly therapeutic effect on children. It gets my goat that there's an enormous lack of attention being paid to kids who are struggling. If we had more funding we could double the number who are riding and help twice as many."
