List of detection times
FEI List of Detection Times
The FEI wants to make sure that horses do not test positive at an event because of a mistake. The consequences are very serious for an athletes career. The FEI List of Detection Times is a list of some common medications that have had the detection times for them to fall below a certain detectable level established. However, you should be aware that not all horses are exactly the same, so you should work with your advisers to add on a safety margin. This is known as a withdrawal time and is dependent on many factors such as the type of horse, the work it is in etc. It is always best to be cautious when selecting the addition withdrawal time over the detection time.
The FEI List of Detection Times can be found here.
The cost of undertaking the work to add medications to this List is high, but the FEI is fully committed to that investment in the future.
Information about the FEI approach to anti-doping and medication control has always been publicly available. However, the FEI is substantially increasing the accessibility to that information, which will be available in a variety of easy to use formats. These formats will also be suitable for educational and training purposes, of both athletes and the required FEI officials. See feicleansport.org.
Elective Testing for substances
If you are in doubt about whether a medication substance has been administered too close to an event and may be detected if your horse was tested, then your veterinary adviser can arrange pre-event elective testing at an FEI laboratory. The procedure is laid out at Annex IV of the current FEI Veterinary Regulations.
