FEI AND OIE  HOSTED A JOINT REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE INTERNATIONAL MOVEMENT OF HORSES IN GUADALAJARA ON 24 OCTOBER 2011

The Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) held  a Conference on 24th October in Guadalajara, Mexico on how to modernise the international movement of horses.

With the mandate to improve animal health and welfare worldwide, the OIE is recognised as the reference standard-setting international organisation by the World Trade Organization. The current use of OIE standards allows the safe movement of horses while avoiding unjustified sanitary barriers. This unique conference convened a variety of world experts from the OIE, representatives of the public sector including Veterinary Services, and all relevant stakeholders from the private sector to discuss best approaches to safely moving horses internationally in particular for competitions, in compliance with OIE standards. It also gave an overview of issues within the region’s growing equine industry.

FEI Y OIE ORGANIZARON CONJUNTAMENTE EN GUADALAJARA, EL 24 DE OCTUBRE 2011, UNA CONFERENCIA REGIONAL SOBRE EL TRAFICO INTERNACIONAL DE CABALLOS.

La Federación Ecuestre Internacional (FEI) y la Organización Mundial de Sanidad Animal (OIE) organizaron conjuntamente una conferencia sobre como modernizar el tráfico internacional de caballos, en Guadalajara, México, el 24 de Octubre.

Con el objetivo de mejorar la salud y el bienestar de los animales, la OIE es mundialmente conocida como la referencia normativa por la Organización Mundial del Comercio (OMC). El uso actual de las normas de la OIE permite el tráfico seguro de los caballos, evitando barreras sanitarias injustificadas.
Esta conferencia única convocó una gran variedad de expertos internacionales de la OIE, representantes del sector público, incluyendo los servicios veterinarios, así como todas las partes interesadas del sector privado, para discutir del mejor enfoque para un tráfico de caballos seguro, particularmente en competiciones, respetando las normas de la OIE. También se dio una visión global de diversos temas dentro de la creciente industria equina de la región.
