A Veterinary Commission is responsible for the veterinary supervision of the equestrian events. It shall be composed of a President, a Foreign Veterinary Delegate and two Associate members, all of whom must be selected from FEI list of contact and event veterinarians.
The President and the Associate Members shall be appointed by the NF of the country where the Games are held, on approval of the FEI Veterinary Committee and the Bureau.
The Foreign Veterinary Delegate shall be appointed by the FEI Veterinary Committee with the approval of the Bureau.
It is essential that the Veterinary Commission includes internationally recognised experts with specialised knowledge in each of the three Olympic disciplines.
President Veterinary Commission
Dr Nigel Bruce Nichols (AUS) will be officiating as the President of Veterinary Commission during the 2008 Olympic Games. Of Australian nationality, he also officiated at the Olympic Games in both 2000 and 2004, and at the Adelaide 4* from 2001 to 2006. He speaks English. Dr Paul Farrington (GBR) is a member of the Veterinary Commission. He is from Great Britain. He officiated at the FEI World Cup™ Finals in Las Vegas for Jumping and Dressage 2007, at the Olympic Games in Athens 2004 as Vet controller Eventing and at the FEI European Championships Eventing 2007. Foreign Veterinary Delegate
Prof Leo Broof Jeffcott (GBR) is a Foreign Veterinary Delegate Member from Great Britain. He Officiated as a Foreign Veterinary Delegate at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and as a President of the Veterinary Commission for the Olympic games in Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004.
