Some of the facts behind the air conditioning system and air circulation
· 24-hour centralised air conditioning ensuring an even temperature throughout each stable block
· The temperature is set at 23 C
· Air curtain at barn entry prevents cooled air leaving and hot air entering stables
· High ceilings and special air vents on stall walls provide good air circulation
In the name of the horses
· Large stalls and broad walkways for the horses
· The first ever rolling box in Olympic stables for equine relaxation
· Flexible equine shower with easily adjustable temperature controls
In the name of the grooms
· Automatic drinker in each stall
· Revolving feed bowl in each stall for easy and safe feeding
· Two ice making machines in each stable block, producing 250lbs of ice each day – used to cool the horses after exercise
· Relaxation rooms for athletes and team officials
· Laundry and drying rooms for equipment and clothing
In the name of nature
· Engineered wood made from sustainable bamboo has been used in the construction of the stables
· Recycled tyres have been used for internal equine walkways and stall interiors in the stabling complex
· All organic waste including horse manure, food waste and bedding (straw, wood, shaving and old newspapers) are collected and recycled using a vermicomposting (earthworm) process to produce organic fertiliser
