FEI Competitor Guide to Doping and Medication Control
Following the positive medication case which occurred at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the FEI has radically changed its doping and medication policy. This includes a clear differentiation between doping and medication, the adoption of a new body of anti-doping and medication control rules and prohibited list of substances, and additional research into detection times for certain commonly used medications in order to better inform those responsible for their horses as to how to best treat them while playing by the rules. The FEI also recognizes that information is critical in deterring future drug offences, whether deliberate or inadvertent. A significant effort in this direction is the release of the FEI Competitor Guide to Doping and Medication Control. This publication is aimed at informing the competitor about the anti-doping and medication control rules applicable to international events governed by FEI rules, as well as the services provided by the FEI to assist the competitor. In particular, it provides important information regarding the new Equine Prohibited List and the Equine Anti-Doping and Medication Control Rules which came into effect on 1 June 2006. The new classification of Prohibited Substances and related sanctions are made available in a readily accessible format. The Guide is available on FEI website at http://www.horsesport.org/mcp/horses/horses.htm?sub=mcp&active=mcp2
