ROLE OF THE PERMITTED TREATING VETERINARIANS
Permitted Treating Veterinarians attend and treat horses during events and may not work in an Official capacity during the same Event. It is important that Permitted Treating Veterinarians understand the FEI General, Veterinary and Equine Anti-Doping & Controlled Medication Regulations, particularly given their liability as Support Personnel or additional Persons Responsible, they must also be aware of the Clean Sport concept.

REQUIREMENTS OF FEI PERMITTED TREATING VETERINARIANS
To become listed by the FEI as a Permitted Treating Veterinarian, the veterinarian must be acknowledged as a qualified and licensed veterinarian/ veterinary surgeon by their National Federation (NF) within their NF country and provide contact names of 2 veterinarians (referees), of which 1 should be an FEI Official, to their NF as character reference. Additionally, they must have an understanding of English and to have agreed to the FEI Permitted Treating Veterinarian codex.
Please note that from 1 January 2013, subject to GA approval, applicants for FEI Official Veterinarian must first be listed as Permitted Treating Veterinarians.

APPLICATION FOR FEI PERMITTED TREATING VETERINARIAN
1. Application to National Federation
Veterinarians wishing to be work at an Event as Permitted Treating Veterinarians need to apply through their National Federations using the application form, which can be downloaded here.
2. Consideration by National Federation
National Federation should ensure that applicant Permitted Treating Veterinarians are qualified and licensed Veterinarians/ Veterinary Surgeons within their NF country, before approving or rejecting their application.
3. FEI ID
Following NF approval, the Veterinarian will receive an email from the FEI providing a link to the FEI user system and their FEI ID.
4. Account Creation
Using the link provided in the email, Veterinarians must update their personal details, accept the FEI Permitted Treating Veterinarian Codex and set their password to create their personal FEI user account.
The applicant will then be able to login to their FEI user account and access the examination platform.
5. The Examination
The examination will consist of questions on the current FEI Veterinary, Equine Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations and Clean Sport. It is intended to be taken as an ‘open book’ examination and therefore the time and number of attempts permitted will not be restricted.
The questions will be presented in a multiple choice question (MCQ) format, and 25 questions will be randomly selected from the question database.

The prototype examination can be accessed here. Please note that his is not the actual exam. To access the actual exam, you will have to go on the FEI database and login with your FEI ID number and password to access your account. When logged in on your account, you will be able to access the link to the exam, which can be found at the bottom of the page.
6. Re-Taking & Re-Starting
Applicants will be able to re-start the examination as required, and may re-take the examination, if they are unsuccessful.
7. Successful Examination
On successful completion of the examination, the applicant will immediately be provided with access to the PDF ID document. This PDF document should be printed, and the marked credit card sized region cut out, a photograph should be added and this ID card carried during attendance at FEI events.
The FEI will inform the FEI Permitted Treating Veterinarian’s NF, via email, when an applicant successfully completes the examination.

No, attendance at a FEI Veterinarian Course is not required. Although it is recommended for Team and Treating Veterinarians.
If you attended a FEI Veterinarian Course between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2012 you are eligible to receive the FEI Permitted Treating Veterinarian Card without taking the examination.

It is not necessary to obtain the Permitted Treating Veterinarian ID Card. You may work as either an Official Veterinarian or a Permitted Treating Veterinarian at any given Event using your FEI Official Veterinarian ID Card to request accreditation.

Endurance Treatment Official Veterinarians must obtain their FEI Permitted Treating Veterinarian ID card in the usual way.
