An FEI Nations Cup™ Top League event is organised as a five-star Nations Cup, i.e. a competition in which official teams representing nations compare their merit. At each event the teams gain points according to their placing. At the end of the 2011 season the team with the highest points wins the FEI Nations Cup™ Top League and the two teams with the lowest points will be relegated to the FEI Nations Cup™ Promotional League. The first placed team of the European Promotional League series as well as the best placed team at the Promotional League Final will join the FEI Nations Cup™ Top League for the 2012 season.
EIGHT EVENTS
Each of these events has a five-star status and the minimum prize money for each Nations Cup competition is € 200,000.
EIGHT TEAMS OF FOUR RIDERS
Each participant rides the same horse throughout the competition. Teams compete in four lines (first rider for each team, then 2nd rider for each team, etc.)
TWO ROUNDS IN EACH COMPETITION
The competition takes place over 2 rounds, over the same course during the same day.
1st round: The starting order is decided by an official draw.
2nd round: Unless eliminated in the 1st round, the eight Top League teams take part in the 2nd round; starting order in reverse order of merit (best team last). The home team, if not one of the eight Top League teams, may return for the 2nd round providing its score in the 1st round does not exceed the score of the last placed Top League team by more than 8 penalties.
