The vision of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is to inspire young people around the world to participate in sport and adopt and live by the Olympic values. It was during its Session in Guatemala City in July 2007 that the IOC decided to create a new sporting event to educate, engage and influence young athletes inspiring them to play an active role in their communities.
1st Youth Olympic Games in Singapore (Summer) in 2010 and Innsbruck (Winter) in 2012
2 programmes of equal importance: Sports Competitions and Culture and Education (CEP)
3 age groups in principle: 15/16, 16/17, 17/18
4 "Universality Places" guaranteed for each NOC in Singapore in 2010
5% mixed-gender and/or mixed-NOC teams events in Singapore
7 sports for the Winter edition
10 and 12 days’ duration (respectively) for Winter and Summer editions
14 August 2010, Opening Ceremony of the inaugural YOG in Singapore
26 sports for the Summer edition
205 NOCs invited to participate in Singapore
1,000 athletes for the Winter edition
3,600 athletes for the Summer edition
At the Singapore Summer Youth Olympic Games, Jumping was the sole equestrian discipline represented with both Team and Individual events – the horses were provided by the organising committee. For the Team event, six teams represented each continent – Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, North America and South America..
