CRITERIA REQUIRED TO BECOME AN FEI EVENT VETERINARIAN
Veterinarians wishing to be certified as an FEI Event Veterinarian (all disciplines), must meet the requirements stated in article 1003 of the Veterinary Regulations. Veterinarians wishing to be certified as an FEI Endurance Event Veterinarian, must have suitable experience.
The FEI recognises the need for FEI Veterinary Officials to gain experience through officiating at events on a higher level than those being available in their own country, this is why we invite you to click here for further information or to contact edu@fei.org for further information.
Art. 1003 of Veterinary Regulations:
1.2. An Event Veterinarian must be able to understand and speak at least one of the two official languages of the FEI, and have a working knowledge of the English language.
2. Veterinary Delegates ‐ Before acting as a Veterinary Delegate at an event, an Event Veterinarian must have qualified as an Associate Event Veterinarian. The qualifications are as follows:
2.1. In Europe, to have acted in collaboration with a Veterinary Delegate at an International Event during the current or preceding year.
2.2. Outside Europe, to have acted in collaboration with a Veterinary Delegate at least three National Events under FEI rules.
2.3. To have participated in an FEI course for Event Veterinarians.
2.4. An Associate Event Veterinarian may be appointed to assist the Veterinary Delegate (e.g. Holding Box Veterinarian).
First time applicants as an FEI event Veterinarian:
• Make sure that you meet the requirements of Article 1003. Contact your National Federation to say you would like to be a certified FEI event veterinarian. If you do meet their requirements, your NF will require an application form along with a Curriculum Vitae (CV) for verification of experience etc. You must then attend an FEI veterinarians course.
• If you do not meet the requirements, then you must inform you National Federation or an organizing committee to obtain experience as an associate event veterinarian and gain some experience.
• No applications will be processed by the FEI unless all the information is completed and stamped by their National Federation.
• The FEI Veterinary Department has the final say before any applicant will be added on to the list of event veterinarians.
Maintenance of FEI Event Veterinarian status:
• Please note that you must take a course every 5 years in order to maintain your status as an FEI Event Veterinarian.
• Complete a promotion application form and send it with your CV to your National Federation for verification and a signature.
• Register for an FEI Veterinarian’s course and have your National Federation send the registration form along with the CV and the application for promotion form to the organizing NF, with copy to the FEI Veterinary Department.
• The Veterinary Department will then cross-check that all the requirements are met, and will send the National Federation a letter stating whether the participant has been approved/maintained status or rejected for the FEI Event Veterinarian List.
