In Memoriam: Harry le Bherz (AUS)
Harry le Bherz, FEI International Judge in Eventing, Olympic Selector and one of the stalwarts of equestrian sports in Australia, passed away at the end of January shortly before his 76th birthday.
Harry joined the Equestrian Federation of Australia (EFA) in 1967 and worked for the sport at all levels. He was one of the movers and shakers in the development of Eventing in Australia, was Chairman of the EFA Quensland Branch and served on various committees including the EFA Federal Council.
In recent years, Harry was the President of the Queensland Inter-School Equestrian Association and was instrumental to the success of this organisation. He was a visionary who knew that children are the future of the sport and did something about it.
Harry received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) on Australia Day 1994 for his services to horse sports.
There are very few people with the energy and dedication that Harry had. Nothing was ever too difficult or too hard. He would simply roll up his sleeves and do it. As his daughter Louise put it: "He still had lots of living to do."
Harry's funeral was held on 3 February 2006.
