2007 FEI World Cup™ Eventing - Report
The 2007 FEI World Cup™ Eventing Series was an all around success for Organizers, competitors, sponsors and the public.16 World Cup Qualifiers were organized during the 2006/2007 Series in 11 countries (AUS, BLR, CAN, FRA, GBR, GER, IRL, NZL, POL, RUS, USA). Canada with Mansfield (25 riders) and Belarus with Minsk (14 riders), hosted their first FEI World Cup™ Eventing qualifier in 2007. Unfortunately, the qualifier scheduled in Warwick, QLD (AUS) was cancelled due to the equine influenza outbreak.
Further to lengthy discussions with sponsors and late timelines, the 2008 Final will not be organized. Rather, the FEI World Cup™ Eventing title for the 2006/2007 season will be awarded to the rider who has amassed the most FEI World Cup™ points during the season.
We are pleased to announce that the 2006/2007 winner is none other than European Champion and FEI World Cup™ title holder, Nicolas Touzaint (FRA), with a total of 230 points. This comes as no surprise as he effectively won both qualifiers organised in France in 2007: Fontainebleau (1st with Galan de Sauvagère and 4th with Hethi Bey) and Martinvast (with Hethi Bey). Runner-up with 178 points is Phillip Dutton (USA) who placed twice in Norwood, NC (USA) and won with Woodburn the qualifier organized in Mansfield, ON (CAN). Third place in the standings is Oliver Townend (GBR) who won the qualifier held in Burnham Market (GBR) with Flint Curtis. It is interesting to mention the performances of Viachaslau Poita (BLR) ranked 4th in the standings (160 points).
The ceremony will take place at a major Eventing competition in spring 2008.
The normal World Cup™ cycle will resume in 2008 with a Final in 2009.
Feedback from organisers shows that the response from the public in term of audience and attendance is growing every year as well as increasing press coverage and interest from international sponsors who renewed their support to the Series in 2007. The regional or national TV coverage of the qualifiers underlined the interest of broadcasting the series.

In light of the series continued success around the world, preparations for the 2008 season are currently including the possibility of a title sponsor. Furthermore, stricter organisers’ criteria for the FEI World Cup™ Eventing events would be set-up in the future to ensure that the events be of the standard expected.
