FEI World Cup Driving Update

22 March 2005

The Göteborg Horse Show will host the last and very exciting leg of the fourth FEI World Cup Driving season. From 24 to 28 March, the Globen arena will be the stage of the battle for the World Cup title. Leader in the standings, triple World Cup winner Michael Freund (27 points), his runner-up Ysbrand Chardon (24 points), Australia’s Boyd Exell and Switzerland’s Werner Ulrich (both on 22 points) will compete against each other for the prestigious title.
Indoor Brabant-winner Jan-Erik Palsson has climbed in the standings to the fifth place and is therefore qualified to compete in Gothenburg. His compatriot Tomas Eriksson (7th place in the standings) will compete with the wild card.

The warm up competition will take place on Saturday March 26th at 21.20 hrs. The World Cup is scheduled on Sunday, March 27th, at 17.25 hrs. The World Cup Driving as well as the highlights of the Göteborg Horse Show will be televised on the digital channel SVT24.

1. Michael Freund (Ger) 27
2. Ysbrand Chardon (Ned) 24
2. Boyd Exell (Aus) 22
4. Werner Ulrich (Sui) 22
5. Jan Erik Palsson (Swe) 16

Created in 2001, the Driving World Cup has provided an innovative new style of competition for indoor events, with courses combining marathon and cone driving obstacles. The 2004/2005 season of the World Cup includes seven competitions: Hannover (GER), Stuttgart (GER), Stockholm (SWE), Mechelen (BEL) in 2004; Leipzig (GER), 's-Hertogenbosch (NED) and Göteborg (SWE) in 2005. The top 5 after 6 events will qualify for the 7th event in Göteborg. The winner of the first three editions of the World Cup was Michael Freund (GER).
