News From Las Vegas

24 March 2005

The FEI World Cup Dressage Final is pleased to welcome Offield Farms of Harbor Springs, MI, as the presenting sponsor for this year's Final.

The FEI World Cup Finals in both Dressage and Jumping will be held concurrently in the same location for the first time in history at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV, April 20-24, 2005. The Finals, annual Championships featuring the world’s best horses and riders vying for the title of FEI World Cup Champion, represent the pinnacle of the sport in both dressage and jumping.

"We're very appreciative of the support that we have received from Offield Farms," said Pat Christenson, President of Las Vegas Events, Inc., producer of the dual FEI World Cup Finals in Las Vegas. "Their sponsorship has made the difference in our being able to have the Dressage Final televised. Dressage fans in America owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude."

The FEI World Cup Dressage Final, Presented by Offield Farms, will be televised nationally on the Outdoor Life Network. The FEI Budweiser World Cup Jumping Final will be televised on NBC on Sunday, May 8 at 5:00 p.m. EDT.

Offield Farms aims to become a significant catalyst for the advancement and promotion of the sport of dressage. "We have made a commitment to help promote equestrian sports," said Karin Reid Offield, President of Offield Farms and an active competitor and lifelong horse lover. "So many people have worked tirelessly for years to help shine the spotlight on dressage; I felt it was my turn to help out."

To that end, the farm has partnered with Las Vegas Events, Inc., to present the 2005 FEI World Cup Dressage Final for the enjoyment and education of thousands of equestrian enthusiasts from around the world.

"I know that the fans at the FEI World Cup Final will walk away with a new appreciation of the skill of the horses and riders and the commitment required to compete at the highest levels," said Offield. "They will have witnessed the best that equestrian sport has to offer, plus the thrill and excitement of a heart-stopping show."

First held in 1986, the FEI World Cup Dressage Final has been held in the U.S. only once, in 1995 in Los Angeles. Germany and The Netherlands have dominated the competition, winning six titles each through 2004. The United States won its first title in 2003 when Debbie McDonald of Hailey, ID, and the magnificent mare, Brentina, owned by Parry and Peggy Thomas of Las Vegas, emerged as champions. The Thomas & Mack Center, the venue for the World Cup Finals, was named for Parry Thomas.

At the FEI World Cup Finals, the brightest American stars will face-off against their top rivals from Europe and around the world. In addition to the world-class competition, spectators will enjoy fabulous entertainment as only Las Vegas, the "Entertainment Capital of the World," can deliver.

The FEI World Cup Jumping Final, started in 1979, is an annual showdown among the world's best jumping horses and riders. Approximately 45 riders qualify from 13 leagues around the world. In the 26 finals held through 2004, United States riders have emerged with the most titles, having won the championship seven times.

This marks the sixth FEI World Cup Jumping Final to be held in the United States, following Finals in Baltimore in 1980, Tampa in 1989, Del Mar, CA in 1992 and the two in Las Vegas in 2000 and 2003.

Las Vegas Events, Inc. (LVE), producer of 2005 FEI World Cup Finals, was founded in 1983. LVE has grown with Las Vegas as the city has emerged as one of the world's top special event and resort destinations. A private, not-for-profit organization, LVE is funded by hotel room tax and serves as the exclusive major special events agency for the city. In its 21-year history, Las Vegas Events has produced, presented or supported more than 200 events, which have driven more than 2.5 million visitors to the area, resulting in an economic impact of more than $700 million.

LVE is responsible for producing the annual National Finals Rodeo and America's Party New Year’s Eve Fireworks Show and sponsoring events such as NASCAR and NHRA. Annually, LVE produces or sponsors nearly thirty events for the Southern Nevada area.
