30 years of Göteborg Horse Show!

30 January 2006

The Göteborg Horse Show was held for the first time in spring 1977 in the Scandinavium Arena. The winner of the Axel Johnsson Grand Prix was Gerd Wiltfang (FRG). Since then almost 1.9 million spectators saw the performances of the world’s best riders in Jumping and Dressage in Göteborg. Since 1979, eleven FEI World Cup Finals have been organised in Göteborg. In 1979, 59 417 enthusiastic spectators came to the Scandinavium Arena during the four days of the show to see Hugo Simon (AUT) win the first ever FEI World Cup Final on Gladstone. In the mid-80’, the Göteborg Horse Show received the prestigious award for “The World’s Best Indoor Equestrian Event”. In 1982, Göteborg Horse Show added high level Dressage competitions to its programme and in 1989, the Scandinavium Arena hosted its first Final of the FEI World Cup Dressage. No less than 11,000 spectators attended the Final and saw the victory of Margit Otto-Crepin and Corlandus. In 1998, to the delight of the Swedish crowd, Louise Nathorst (SWE) won the Final on Walk on Top. The four-in-hand drivers performed several appreciated demonstration competitions in Göteborg over the years, and since 2002, the successful FEI World Cup Driving Series concludes in Göteborg. The show goes on and in 2006, Göteborg Horse Show will be held from 13 to 16 April for the 30th consecutive year. Press accreditation will be open on Monday 30 January on http://en.goteborghorseshow.se/pages/menu/ 1121343800911364991/submenu/ 1121428178547117183.
