Other information STABLES In 2012 he opened the Luca Moneta Horsemanship Equestrian Centre in Uggiate-Trevano, Italy. He is renowned at being to able to get the best from horses others have been unable to ride. He trains riders and horses in natural horsemanship and showjumping. (lucamoneta.com, 13 Mar 2016; animoitalia.com, 29 Dec 2015) PARELLI METHOD In 2000 he began studying the basic principles of ethology [animals' behaviour in their natural habitat] after having problems with two horses. He came across the American 'Parelli method', a form of training based entirely on ethological principles, which he now uses himself. "I was always living in the expectation of a result and the evidence of a competitive encounter that seemed to never arrive. The turning point was to attain the ethological knowledge to really be able to help the horse overcome and solve its own challenges." (lucamoneta.com, 04 Feb 2012)
Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport? He was the youngest of 12 siblings and became interested in horses at age 12 through one of his brothers, who was an endurance rider. "I used to help him train the horses. I had no lessons. I just rode in the field and then out in the country. My parents did not approve of my choice, so I had to work to pay for some lessons."
Why this sport? "With riding you need physicality, technique and, above all, a relationship with a wonderful animal. That is the thing that struck me most compared to other sports."
