Other information HORSE
Her family purchased her horse Verdades from the Netherlands in 2008. They did not have the budget to buy a promising horse that had already been trained, so Graves had to take a chance on a younger animal on the basis of video evidence. "As soon as he arrived, we realised just how strong and sensitive he was. It took three men at the quarantine station to help us get him on the trailer, and he was just six months old. He really tested your patience. We tried to sell him. He was extremely wild and temperamental, to the point where he was dangerous. Some days I would say, 'I just can't ride him today. He's not rideable'. Until he was seven I couldn't get a mounting block close to him, I just had to climb up." (cnn.com, 10 Jul 2015)

CAREER CHOICE
She intended to pursue a career in hairdressing before she was partnered with her horse Verdades. Although the mount could be difficult to handle, she recognised the potential in him. "I was a hairstylist. I had moved to Boston [in the United States of America], and that's what I was going to do. But then I said to myself, 'now is the time'. I was young and had never sat on a horse of this quality before. I said to myself, 'I have this horse in my life who, if I had to buy him at this age, I could never afford. I'm at a point in my life where I can take an escape from what I'm doing for a job'. And I went and tried to make it happen in Florida. I packed up everything and moved." (cnn.com, 10 Jul 2015)
