Injuries In July 2000 he broke his collarbone at an event in Sweden. He recovered in time to compete at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. (nbcolympics.com, 24 Aug 2008)

At age 15 he was riding on a cross-country track when his horse started to tire and fell, landing on top of him. He broke five ribs, which caused severe lung damage and he spent a week in a coma. He had a third of his right lung removed and spent six weeks in hospital. It took him more than six months to train himself to breathe properly again.
