Philipp von Schoeller (AUT), 1921 - 2008

Philipp Von Schoeller, IOC Honorary Member in Austria, has passed away at the age of 86. Born on 23 August 1921 in Vienna, Mr von Schoeller became national champion in Jumping in 1953 and was on the Austrian Jumping team from 1953 to 1958.
Philipp von Schoeller was elected as an IOC member in 1977 and served on several commissions – Finance (1989-2000), Olympic Programme, “IOC 2000” (1999), Study and Evaluation for the Preparation of the Olympic Games (1984-1988), and Cultural (1981-1984) – before becoming an honorary member in 2000. Mr von Schoeller was a great support to the FEI and the appointed IOC member for questrian for the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games; in this position he greatly facilitated contacts between the two organizations. Between 1977 and 1993, he was the President of the Society for the Support of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.
Educated in economics at the University of Innsbruck, Philipp von Schoeller was an industrialist and a board member of various companies. He chaired the Austrian Federal Chamber of Commerce, Industry Section, from 1971 to 1990, the ICC-International Maritime Bureau in London from 1985 to 1998, and was President of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris in 1982.
Mr von Schoeller was married and had six children.
